Calatori englezi despre Transilvania secolului XIX

Am descoperit la Open Library doua carti electronice despre Transilvania, scrise de calatori englezi pe la jumatatea secolului XIX, cand Transilvania era sub stapanirea Imperiului Austriac (Habsburgic), care nu devenise inca Austro-Ungar.

Pot fi citite online sau pot fi descarcate ca PDF sau text simplu (prima si ca ePub sau Mobi sau trimisa direct pe Kindle) - dar cred ca e preferabil PDF-ul cu pagini scanate, ca transpunerea ca text (OCR-ul) are destule erori.

Mi s-au parut interesante in special, ca food for thought, relatarile celor doi englezi despre viata romanilor sub stapanirea austriaca - daca vreti sa le vedeti, cautati in ele dupa vechea denumire "Wallack", dar va previn ca s-ar putea sa va irite, ma ales la Boner. Ca straini, n-aveau de ce sa nu fie obiectivi, doar ca sursele lor de informatii erau de regula nobilii unguri, cu care puteau comunica in germana. Cred ca John Paget era liberal, iar Charles Boner cu siguranta conservator, caci Boner isi insuseste necritic informatiile si dispretul pentru romani al surselor sale, pe cand Paget ii priveste pe taranii romani cu mai multa intelegere si compasiune si considera ca vina pentru starea lor de saracie si inapoiere nu e atat a lor, cat a circumstantelor. Dar nu numai liberalul Paget, ci si conservatorul Boner admira frumusetea romancelor in costume nationale facute de ele insele - asa cum vedem mai sus, Boner pune una chiar pe prima pagina.

Cele doua carti electronice sunt fireste gratuite legal, avand copyright-ul expirat si in UE si in SUA, ca orice carte din secolul XIX.

Daca ati mai gasit voi alta, va rog sa imi spuneti.

Si ma opresc aici ca am obosit, atentia mi-a slabit, cifrele imi joaca in fata ochilor (am mai adaugat totusi cateva a doua zi). Posibil sa se fi strecurat in lista una-doua de-alea cu 2.30 $, daca observati, va rog, scuzati-ma si anuntati-ma.

Sunt vreo 70-80 de volume (unele carti sunt incomplete, avand si volume cu plata).

Cum le-am gasit:  pornind de la Alice in Wonderland mentionata de Marian Buhnici si pargurgand listele "Customers Who Bought This Item Also Bought" ale cartilor gratuite descoperite.

Literatura engleza 1 - romanul englezesc feminin din secolul XIX

Ca sa ne facem o idee despre ce plenitudine de carti ne pune netul la dispozitie, hai sa alegem un sector ingust:
- o tara: Marea Britanie 
- un secol: XIX
- un gen: romanul
- un sex: cel mai putin reprezentat in literatura, cel feminin
